or as long as I can remember - and a long time before that - my father, Sidney Jarratt, has tied salmon and trout flies for the sports fishermen of New Brunswick. From the Miramichi to the Restigouche, the Nepisiquit to the Teteagouche, he has developed a reputation for his excellence and dedication to the art and sport of fly fishing.

But what a lot of people don't realize is that 1999 marks the 60th year my father has been tying flies, and after more than a half century, it's about time his story was told.

But to hear the whole account, you have to know about a chance encounter involving an eavesdropping American aunt, her friend who knew about sport fishing, and a prophetic note which advised him to "tie his own."
